ATHLETIC WEEKLY ROUNDUP
FEBRUARY 12 - FEBRUARY 17
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL 
  • Mullen started the week off on Monday with a convincing win over Eaglecrest, 68-27.  Thursday night the team traveled to Cherry Creek to battle the Bruins; however, they came up short falling to Creek 59-41.  On Saturday girls’ basketball fell to Grandview 33-47 to finish out the Centennial League Challenge and to bring their regular season to a close.  On Sunday the team learned it was selected the overall No. 9 seed in the 6A post-season tournament, and they were selected to host the 24th seed, Monarch High School.  The game is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the Hutchison Fieldhouse on the Mullen campus.  
BOYS’ BASKETBALL 
  • In their second round game of the league challenge on Thursday, Mullen was disappointed with a 70-63 loss to the Cougars of Cherokee Trail.  The boys bounced back in a big way capping their regular season and the final game of their Centennial League Challenge by defeating Grandview 67-54.  They learned on Sunday that they had to travel to Valor Christian, the No. 6 seed, in the opening round of the CHSAA 6A Basketball State Tournament.  Their game is scheduled for Wednesday night at Valor at 6:30 PM.
HOCKEY 
● The hockey team traveled to DU to take on Kent Denver in their last regular season game.  The Mustangs        prevailed with a 4-1 win over the Sun Devils.

GIRLS’ SWIM AND DIVE

WRESTLING
  • 3A STATE CHAMPIONS!  How ‘bout them Mustangs!!!  On Saturday night at Ball Arena in the Class 3A Boys’ Wrestling State Championships, the Mustangs were crowned the best in the land.  They bested the field by 18 points scoring 140.5 points.  The team was led by Gilbert Antillon’s 2nd-place finish and Isaak Chavez and Champ Dyes’ individual championships.  But, the night belonged to 4-time State Champion and the 3A Bob Smith Most Outstanding Wrestler, Mr. Dale O’Bila.
  • Also putting in great efforts to help the team achieve its Championship were Antonio Herrera, Christopher Smith, Evstevan Loya, Oliver Scelza, and Amani Fugue.
  • In the Girls Division, Jzunie Jones was Mullen’s only entry, and she finished in 5th place in her weight division.
